Weddings

This was our first Persian ceremony and we loved all the symbolism involved. The low table is called the “Sofreh Aghd”, translated “the marriage spread”, and was set with items that represent the couple’s relationship and their future. One of my favorite things on the table was a bowl filled with pomegranates that represented the gifts from heaven. I also loved the cup of honey that stood for the sweetness of life. During the ceremony the bridesmaids held a cloth over the couple while taking turns rubbing sugar cones over the cloth as if to “shower them with sweetness.” To end the ceremony, Dorna and Maulin dipped their fingers in the honey and fed one another. Such sweetness all around!

We started the day with photos at the historic Washington Irving’s Sunnyside Home overlooking the Hudson River. The ceremony and reception were at the lovely Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, New York.
