Sharon McPeake and Daniel Burka are a pair of designers with style oozing from every pore. I knew we were in for a visual treat when I first visited their wedding website and read the description for their autumn wedding as “a rustic picnic social hootenanny!” Beyond the style, Sharon and Daniel are genuine, kindhearted and crazy in love. The day of their wedding I had a serious case of sensory overload that lasted most of the sun-kissed day. Symptoms include smiling so much that you can feel your smile lines rapidly forming around your eyelids. Forgetting to breathe as you frantically focus on a perfectly hand-cut ribbon and a basket of vintage plates. Tripping over your own feet while simultaneously looking through your viewfinder and chasing the melting sun. Sensory overload may also include the desire to create an alternate reality. While focusing on the dessert table you may make a secret wish to shrink to the size of a baby gecko and move into delicious tablescape. Imagining a life of sliding down the chocolate-root beer bundt cake, climbing to the top of the carrot cake mountain and planting a tiny flag on the frosted summit. Sleeping the night away on a midnight brownie, staring up at the giant tree illuminated with votives twinkling like stars. By the end of the wedding we were a little cross eyed with burning cheeks and at least two new smile lines each. I was ready to curl up on a pecan pie, call it a night and live inside this wedding forever.
