i woke to your face not looking at me
but at the bird that settled on your wrist,
lured by food. Its trust, for once, was rewarded.
you offered the bird everything you had.
i remember. that is how it began
with us: you held out your hand; i took it.

it's not often that we get to shoot a wedding in walking distance from our home. we lucked out this year when we met jessica and ryan, who are the sweetest, kindest and most considerate pair. we would have traveled a million miles to photograph these two, but lucky for us they live in tacoma just like us! they were married at a beautiful old church right in our neighborhood. we started the day with photographs down on the waterfront (where our friend chris spied on us shooting through her telescope up in her condo-ha)! then we headed back up to our neighborhood for the ceremony at st. lukes memorial episcopal church, the celebration continued over at the beautiful fircrest golf course. we are so excited for jess and ry, they just seem so perfect together. ryan got jessica a new camera and a few private photo lessons with me for christmas, so i''ll be seeing more of these two this winter. can't imagine a better person to share my love of photography with!
*beautiful poem discovered at alison and gareth's wedding this fall. alison recently wrote a wonderful post on her blog titled "what poems make good readings at weddings". i would highly suggest a visit over to her blog to read her selection.
