Time slows as you roll onto the ferry headed to Orcas Island. This was a welcome change in the middle of our busy summer season. We headed up a couple days early for Kendra & Daniel’s wedding to avoid the weekend ferry crowds. I highly recommend a sunset sailing, our ferry ride was a brilliant display of hot pink hues around each bend. I used the word eyegasm for the first time. We were lulled to sleep at night by the acoustic patter of raindrops on our van roof. The day before the wedding we soaked in the tubs at Doe Bay while taking in deep full breaths of cedar. We visited Artworks where I bought the most delicious lavender soap made by Island Thyme. I placed the bars all over the van, one in the glove box, one in my bag, one behind the back seat. The van smelled just like a spa. We went into this wedding in a perfectly orchestrated noodle state. Kendra & Daniel started their wedding day with yoga and made a point to take a half hour break before the ceremony to meditate together. We were perfectly on the same wavelength. Their sailboat “Windhorse” was anchored right in the middle of Doe Bay. For their honeymoon they sailed around the islands on it for a week. They treated their guests to gourmet food created by the Doe Bay chefs and scrumptious pies baked locally in EastSound at “Passionate about Pies.” Andrea from Pink Blossom Events made all the important details come together. It may be impossible to beat the northwest beauty in the middle of summer (especially on Orcas Island).
