I believe that this may be winter’s grand finale week. Certainly feels like the build up to something new on this incredibly dreary wet morning. I certainly hope so because I have put off buying a proper winter dress coat all winter. But I am growing quite tired of wearing my green puffy coat with my dresses. Since we were lucky enough to spend big chunks of time in Hawaii this winter, I keep telling myself that winter is just a temporary situation. No need to go crazy with new coats, scarves and boots. I feel like if I invest in such things at this point than winter wins. Michelle and Luke are getting married in the sunshine state of Florida in a couple months. We decided to go the opposite direction for their engagement photos and completely freeze to death. We started our session with their three adorable dogs up on Queen Anne Hill, stopped for some food at good old “Dicks” on our way to Pike Place. We wrapped up in Post Alley, where I become obsessed with the hand painted tables outside of “Sisters” European restaurant. The next day I painted my own version of that striped shirt muscle man table because I couldn’t get it out of my mind. You never know where you will find inspiration. Like winter, I am convinced I hate it. But then I look at these chilly willy portraits and realize that it’s pretty sweet how the cold makes people snuggle up like crazy. This could be our last cuddly winter weekend. Take full advantage.

Most important for us was to incorporate things Nevada and Washington at our wedding. Thomas is from Ely, a small town in Nevada where the majority of his family still lives. Washington is where my family resides and is in the place where Thomas and I met and fell in love. All colors reflecting the natural environments of Nevada and Washington were used as inspiration for the day. The big blue open skies and sagebrush of Nevada mixed with the overcast skies and evergreens of the Pacific Northwest. Ocean Chalcedony (color of the gem in my engagement ring), Grey, Juniper, and Sage.

We enlisted some crafty friends to make these origami geometric balls. It took a lot of rom-com watching and many swear words to get us through making what seemed like a million balls. It was worth it, they made up our backdrop during the ceremony and are now precariously placed all over our house.
My favorite place for wedding inspiration was this blog actually. I just drooled over your photographs of other couple’s weddings. I would just LIVE in their photos if I could, and it was through those other real couples that gave me the most inspiration.

Our vows were written in “Field Notes” – these little notebooks Thomas and I use to sketch places we’ve been and ideas we have. These sketchbooks are also what we gave as a favor to our guests.

As I was walking down the aisle I noticed the string trio had transitioned from playing traditional classical music to Sigur Ros’ “Hoppipolla” – a favorite song of mine! Conspiring with Thomas without me knowing, the dear friend who set us up with the string trio also bought the sheet music as a wedding gift so the trio could learn it 2 weeks before the wedding.

I shopped and shopped and shopped. And shopped for the perfect dress. In the end, the quilted dress I found at Belltown Bride was the perfect hybrid of classic with a twist of odd. My experience was similar to when I go shopping for vintage clothing where so often a dress looks terrible on the hanger but if you just give it a chance, and try it on, it comes to life . The quilted dress was nothing short of bizarre on the hanger, this intrigued me. When I put it on I smiled in delight.

The most memorable moment was hands down our ceremony. The entire experience was so profound and special to me. We chose Parson’s Garden on the top of Queen Anne, the park is something out of a storybook with it’s petite size, the trees and flowers that encroach make for an extremely intimate and magical setting. This is the same park where Tyson proposed to me. It was a special place for us and it was nothing short of magical to be married there. We put out blankets with baskets of fruit and lemonade and our guests were encouraged to either sit or stand. When I stood there next to Tyson and said my vows, all of the people who are most special to us were intimately close and surrounding us. It was truly remarkable.

After the ceremony Tyson and I and our wedding party were whisked off in pedicabs to
