Well, 2007 is winding down and what a year it was!
With the New Year around the corner I like to reflect on the past year and remember all the
important moments, events and people that made it special. We had such a busy and fun summer capturing so many sweet kisses and lovely little details at weddings. Here are just a few of my favorites of 2007……
One of the biggest changes in 2007 is that my husband Jon started to work with me as my second photographer. After shooting on my own for 10 years it was a whole new experience to have someone working with me. Once I opened up to letting someone else help me I realized that Jon is a huge asset! He is a great problem solver and has an incredible natural talent for creating photographs from fresh and creative viewpoints. Jon has helped me so much with editing images and post-production work. He also proofreads my blog for me whenever I ask. As we head into 2008 we are now officially Team One Love.
Jon in action this summer, luckily he is a quick study. Here are a few
of my favorites images that Jon shot this summer.
I fell in love the first moment I saw this photograph and I was inspired to create a mixed media collage. This is our first team collaboration; I think it turned out quite lovely!
My
favorite adventure in 2007 was a super fun trip to New York City with
Jon, his brother Jeremy and our good friend Kate in February. It was
crazy cold but we just bundled up and
hit the pavement. Kate and I had to convince the boys that scarves were a good thing, they quickly realized we were on to something and "borrowed" our scarves. We ate gluten free bread sticks, got weird haircuts,
explored art galleries, had dinner under crazy Christmas lights, saw an off
Broadway show, went to a flea market, obsessed over a falafel
stand, explored Central Park, found Alice, got even colder and sold some
miniature pottery! Oh how I love being married to a famous miniature potter!
It was a year full of celebration, we had three good friends get married this year. I was able to photograph all of them. Elaine&Matt, Kate&Brian and Cory&Damon – Cheers to all of you and happy marriage! It was a pleasure to be apart of your special day!
Another favorite moment for me was a summer evening garden party that I hosted with my good friend Ember for Kate’s wedding shower. The best part about planning the party together is that Ember and I are both inspired by Martha Stewart, so we both felt strongly that the shower had to be Martha worthy. I think we spent three separate nights working on the invitations alone. Em has been a very busy mom the past couple years, so I was excited to get to spend some time together working on all the cute details. From the hanging lanterns, flower hair pins, delicious dinner and signature drink; everything turned out so cute! We had so much fun giggling the evening away! I wish I had some photos of the "Top Model" photo competition we did with Leo’s dinosaurs. Sylvia has a fierce talent for posing with a plastic dinosaur on her head. Watch out Tyra!
What I am the most thankful for in 2007 is my family! I love this photo of everyone out at my parent’s house this summer. We had a scary September with my Mom being rushed to the hospital with a cardiac episode and not being able to breathe. We came too close to losing her and spent several days together in the ICU, supporting her and hoping for the best. Every time I think about it, I am just so happy that 2007 didn’t become the worst year of my life. My mom is on medication and is doing quite well. The positive side is that she quit smoking (awesome) and is doing great with her low sodium diet. My Mom is so supportive, funny and spunky. I feel very lucky every time I spend an hour on the phone with her, or when we meet up for a weekend visit. One month after I took this photo my parents moved to a new house and put the old homestead up on the market. I was very sad to see them leave such a beautiful place but I am glad to report that they are very happy in their new home. I just got off the phone with my Mom and she ended the conversation by saying 2008 is going to be GREAT! amen
