an almost sister is an extra special friend. the girl you knew before bras and boys. the girl who you thought your own sister liked more than you. the girl you would build forts with. the girl who would go on brave adventures into the woods, until she saw a slug. the girl who convinced you that the best dress up clothes were in our mom’s closet not the toy chest. the girl who believed that your bathroom cupboard really could be a time machine. the girl who knew about your secret blankie, but kept it to herself. the girl who would pin you down and give you tickle torture until you cried. the girl who was your bunk mate and swimming partner at summer camp. the girl who knew how to drive you crazy. the girl you could send home when you were mad. the girl who would be your shirley when you wanted to be laverne for halloween. the girl who will always appear when looking through old family albums. the girl you may have lost along the way. but no matter what, she’s always there next to you in childhood.
